WS-X5213A Overview

The Cisco WS-X5213A is a Fast Ethernet switching module for the Catalyst 5000 Series, providing 12 autosensing 10/100Base-TX copper ports for flexible desktop, server, or wiring closet connectivity. Each port automatically detects the appropriate speed, allowing seamless support for both legacy 10 Mbps Ethernet devices and newer 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet clients over standard twisted-pair cabling. This adaptability made the WS-X5213A a practical choice for enterprises during the transition period from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps networking, as it simplified mixed-environment deployments without requiring dedicated modules for each speed.
