The Cisco SFP transceiver module designed to deliver Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over a single strand of fiber. Unlike traditional transceivers that require two fibers, this module uses different wavelengths for transmission and reception (typically 1310nm and 1490nm), allowing full-duplex communication over one fiber when paired with a complementary BiDi module. It is optimized for short-to-medium reach applications, supporting distances of up to 10 kilometers, making it suitable for metro access networks, campus environments, and enterprise deployments where fiber resources are limited.
