WS-C3550-12T Overview

The Cisco Catalyst WS-C3550-12T is a compact, enterprise-class multilayer switch that integrates high-performance switching with advanced Layer 3 routing capabilities. Unlike the fiber-dominant WS-C3550-12G, this model is optimized for copper-based infrastructures, featuring twelve 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet ports for versatile server and workstation connectivity over standard RJ-45 cabling. To extend connectivity and flexibility, it also includes two GBIC-based uplink ports, enabling integration with fiber backbones or other gigabit-capable switches.As part of the Catalyst 3550 Series, the  supports full Layer 2 switching while also offering Layer 3 routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP, making it suitable for building scalable enterprise LANs without requiring dedicated routers for inter-VLAN communication.
