WS-X5012 Overview

The Cisco WS-X5012 is a desktop switching module for the Catalyst 5000 Series chassis, offering 48 ports of 10Base-T Ethernet connectivity. Designed for legacy enterprise networks, it provides high-density twisted-pair copper connections that support 10 Mbps throughput per port, making it suitable for desktop and workgroup environments of its era. This module was intended to deliver scalable, centralized switching in medium to large enterprise deployments, where many end devices such as PCs and printers required reliable Ethernet connectivity at the access layer. The integrates with Catalyst 5000 Supervisor Engines to benefit from centralized switching fabric, VLAN segmentation, and basic Quality of Service features available at the time.
